MISSION STATEMENT
Girl Scouts - Heart of
Missouri Council builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
GIRL SCOUTING IS...
A movement that gives girls ages 5-17
from all segments of American life a chance to develop their
potential, to make friends, and to become a vital part of
their community. With a mission focused and based on ethical
values, it opens up a world of opportunity for youth, working
in partnership with adult volunteers.
THE COUNCIL
Girl Scouts - Heart of Missouri Council
is chartered by Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. and is incorporated
in the State of Missouri as a non-profit organization. The
corporate Board of Directors is elected by the delegate body
and is responsible for making policy decisions and for governing
the affairs of the Council between annual meetings. Girl Scout
volunteers elected in their community groups (called service
units) join members of the council nominating committee and
board of directors as voting members of the corporation.
THE
COUNCIL JURISDICTION
Heart of Missouri Council provides Girl
Scouting in the following eighteen mid-Missouri counties:
Audrain, Benton, Boone, Callaway, Chariton, Cole, Cooper,
Gasconade, Howard, Maries, Miller, Moniteau, Montgomery,
Morgan, Osage, Pettis, Randolph and Saline.
THE
PROGRAM
Girl Scouting is a continuous adventure
in learning that offers a broad range of activities, which
address both their current interests and their future roles
as women. This is achieved through:
- Group activities which include
camping, career development, crafts, sports, group dynamics,
service projects,
learning
about the environment and special trips.
- Inter-troop, council-wide, national
and international wider opportunities.
- Day and resident camping.
- Year-round flexible programs.
DELIVERY
OF PROGRAM
Departments have been designed to ensure
the best possible delivery of services to girls. They are
Management, Membership, Program and Adult Development, Customer Service,
Fund Development, Finance, Technology and Risk Management, and Marketing--with directors appointed
by the CEO.
MEMBERSHIP
During the 2006 membership year, Heart
of Missouri Council's membership grew to 7,026 girl
members and 1,605 adult members.
FUNDED
BY
Girl Scouts - Heart of Missouri Council
is funded by: contributions from individuals, businesses and
community organizations, product sale proceeds, United Way
allocations, program fees, and investment income.
STAFF
The CEO is appointed by
the board of directors on recommendation of the President.
As chief executive officer, this person is responsible for
the total operations of the council. The council employs 20
full- and part-time staff.
